Spotify Advert Project 1

Updated: May 1, 2019

the first project I was given for my final year of University was to create an animated sequence for a company of our choice. I worked in a team of 2 people. I was the 3D Artist and he was the Animator.

We chose to use Spotify as our chosen company as we felt that this enabled us to have more with what we wanted to do and what the style could be overall.

In the end, we decided to go for a more stylised/cartoon approach and make it so it was as colourful and as fun as possible.

Due to Spotify having the colour green as the main recognisable feature, this made it much easier to create a colour palette that could work.

We had a few weeks of pre-production so this therefore involved the research element of what characters and environments would be featured within the short.

The original idea was to start in space with an orb that had the spotify logo at the front so that it was made obvious from the beginning. The orb is floating in space with the earth in the background, the animation starts with the orb turning on and making its way towards Earth.

The rest of the animation was supposed to be the orb flying through the sky through various different environments in the world, such as the sea, desert, city and then finally the forest where it crash lands. However, due to the time constraints for this project, we had to limit the environments to just the forest as a fox in the forest was going to be the main character and most appealing aspect of the animation.

Due to this change, it meant that we could focus more on the animation of the fox and the overall look and feel of the environment (forest). If we hadn't restricted this project the way we did, I don't personally think it would have been completed in the end, or at least would not have been at a high quality.
