For one of my projects in the 3rd year, I had the opportunity to collaborate with another student who is directing and producing a film based on a star wars graphic novel.
Due to my experience in creating hard-surface props and vehicles, etc. He asked me to come on board the project and model the main spaceship, of which the majority of the trailer will be placed in or around so is therefore a large section of the trailer for the film.
Because of budget cost and time constraints, this project will be on creating a trailer rather than a full film.
I thoroughly enjoyed this project although the time scale I had in order to complete this full model was very strict, it became clear that the scale and detail of the model itself had to be prioritised in to certain areas, for example, the front of the ship as his was one of the major shots within the trailer and of the side view of the ship itself once it has crash landed. I also decided to create the different parts of the ship as separate models.
Through doing this, it made it much easier for me to separate the UV's and texture areas cleanly and in a neat and organised fashion. It also meant that once I had finished the texturing work on one part of the ship, I could send it to the director for feedback and work on something else until I get notes back on what I should change.
Overall, I am very with my work for this project as it holds up well with the rest of the environment and the collaboration experience with the director was extremely useful and will definitely help me for when I go into the industry.
